At Belubula Hemp Homes, we believe the future of construction lies in smarter, more sustainable choices.
Led by licensed builder James Isaacs, we bring decades of hands-on experience to every project. Since completing our first hemp home in 2017, we’ve installed hempcrete in over 20 homes across NSW.
We build healthy, energy-efficient homes using low-carbon materials with a strong focus on cast in situ hempcrete construction.
We collaborate with eco-conscious homeowners, architects, builders and developers to deliver homes that are breathable, beautiful, and built to last, good for the environment and will save you on power bills for eons to come. Whether you’re planning a full build or want to learn more about building with hemp we’re here to support your journey.
Based in Hartley Vale NSW just past the Blue Mountains about 2 hours from Sydney we currently service an area that ranges from Orange in the Central West to the Central Coast North of Sydney and down to Goulburn South of Sydney. Yes, we’ll even work in Sydney and anywhere in between!

While our core focus is building structures ready for cast in situ hempcrete—and installing those hempcrete walls ourselves—we’re builders first. That means we also take on conventional construction work, from laying footings and foundations to framing and finishing. We work with a trusted network of contractors to deliver quality results at every stage.
About the Director – James Isaacs
James Isaacs
Founder & Director, Belubula Hemp Homes
James Isaacs is one of Australia’s most experienced hempcrete builders and a leading voice in sustainable construction. With over 15 years of practical experience and more than 20 hempcrete homes under his belt, James brings both craftsmanship and conviction to the building industry.
Raised in rural NSW, James has always had a deep connection to the land and a respect for honest, hands-on work. He founded Belubula Hemp Homes to bring that same ethos into the homes he builds, using hempcrete and other low-impact materials and design techniques to create healthier spaces for people and the planet.
James is a fully licensed builder and experienced hempcrete installer. He’s also completed advanced training in natural renders such as Rockcote and continues to research and refine techniques that push the boundaries of what sustainable construction can be.
His builds have received industry recognition, including a Merit Master Builders Award for “Excellence in Housing” (2013) and a Regional Building Award from the Master Builders Association (2018).
Whether he’s working with architects on bespoke designs, hosting learning sessions, or on-site packing hemp with volunteers, James leads with care, practicality, and vision. When not building, you’ll find him with his young family or walking through the bush, still looking for better ways to build.
