Most people laugh when they picture it. Yet when it comes to building homes in places like Lithgow, where winter mornings can be icy and summer days can still climb high, we sometimes treat our houses just like that open fridge. We spend money heating and cooling, but without good insulation and airtight construction, much of that energy escapes.
Building in the Bathurst region comes with its own set of challenges. The area stretches across varied landscapes and climates, Winter nights 0–5°C, to the scorching summers of 35–40°C. Bathurst region homes face extremes of hot and cold. How do we build a home, extension or renovation and keep it comfortable year-round without spending a fortune on heating and cooling?
