Week 2 of the Vittoria Hemping Hands build was another great reminder of the value of training and volunteering on hemp builds. Training and volunteering on hemp builds opportunities don’t just create sustainable homes, they also build skills, networks, and community.
During this week, volunteers came from as far as Canberra and Far North Queensland to lend a hand. With many hands on site, progress was steady and the atmosphere was full of energy. For those new to hempcrete, it was a practical introduction to mixing, casting, and working with natural building materials, something you can only truly learn by doing.

A huge thank you to Belubula Hemp Homes for hosting the build, the Australian Hemp Masonry Company for supplying the binder, and Ashford Hemp for their role in material supply. Together, they provided the foundation for both the walls and the training experience.
Volunteers found out about this opportunity through the Hemp Building Directory event listing, which was shared on the Hemp Building Australia Facebook page. That post gave clear details about what to bring, where to stay, and how to get involved, making it easy for people to say yes and join in.
As always, the spirit of collaboration shone through. Many hands really do make light work, and every participant walked away with not only the satisfaction of contributing but also the confidence to take what they learned into future hemp builds.
Jeremy from Environmentarian captured plenty of footage from the week and hopes to edit a few videos. In the meantime, this update stands as proof that volunteering on hemp builds is one of the best ways to gain hands-on training while helping create something meaningful.
